## About these allocations

An allocation is the share of its contract amount a water contractor can expect to receive this year. Reclamation announces Central Valley Project allocations class by class, usually starting in late February and revising them as the season's runoff firms up. The Department of Water Resources announces the State Water Project's single statewide figure, a percent of each contractor's Table A amount, starting around December 1. Senior settlement and exchange contractors usually receive most or all of their contracts; south-of-Delta agricultural service is the class that moves most from year to year. [How CVP allocations work](/guides/how-cvp-allocations-work) and [how SWP allocations work](/guides/how-swp-allocations-work) explain the classes and the calendar.
