Now 1,037.53 ft (Oct 15, 2026). That is the lowest reading since the lake first filled in July 1941, and the lowest since April 1937, while the reservoir was still filling behind the new Hoover Dam.

Lake Mead's water surface in feet above sea level, by calendar year, newest first. End of year is the Dec 31 reading; Change is the move from the previous Dec 31. The current year shows its latest reading.

About this record

Lake Mead's water level was 1,037.53 feet above sea level on Oct 15, 2026, 182.07 feet below full pool (1,219.6 feet). That is the lowest reading since the lake first filled in July 1941, and the lowest since April 1937, while the reservoir was still filling behind the new Hoover Dam.

Each row of the table summarizes Reclamation's daily reading of the water surface at Hoover Dam for one calendar year: the level on Dec 31, the change from the year before, and the year's lowest and highest readings with their dates. The record begins on Feb 2, 1935, when the reservoir had just begun to fill, and has a reading for every day since. The 2026 row runs through Oct 15, 2026 and will close at the year's final reading. Completed years come from the full record in Reclamation's RISE database; the current year is read from the same daily series behind Lake Mead water level, which carries the latest daily reading with storage in acre-feet.

Lake Mead water level by year walks through the eras in this record: the first fill, the drawdown while Lake Powell filled in the 1960s, the 1983 high and the decline since 2000.
